I've had this unit for over a year, and have used it several times, hoping each time that it would work well. It is very easy to use, with 2 settings, low and high. The main problem is that it does not seem to humidify the air too well, and the change is not noticeable to me or my wife. This might work OK in a small room. We've had warm mist humidifiers in the past, whose humidifying abilities were more obvious. This is the first cool mist humidifier we've purchased, and I am not impressed. I had the unit on high all day yesterday and it took all that time for the water reservoir (which was 3/4 full at start) to empty. That is NOT nearly enough dissipation volume to create any significant humidity changes in a typical room. In addition, I could not find any retailer that sells filters for this unit!

For years I have used a warm mist humidifier and they work fine, but since I have kids now, I wanted to try the cool mist for their rooms. This one makes no mist, but it's not supposed to. If you like to see the mist coming out...don't buy this one. I think it's easier to fill than the traditional style warm mist, but I would suggest putting the base where you need it and not moving it. If you do, water will likely spill. If you just take the tank with you to the sink, you should be fine. I do like the smaller footprint (the warm mist one I had takes up a lot of space) and the dual settings. The low setting is the one you will likely use for sleeping--the high setting is way too loud.

For me the biggest down side is all the fussiness. The directions say not to leave water in the tank when it's not in use. If you leave water for more than a day, bacteria can collect. (according to instruction book) So, if I'm not using it for a day, emptying out the tank, the bottom tray seems fussy. Also it says to clean the tank with bleach and the tray with vinegar weekly. I certainly never cleaned the warm mist style weekly. I also think it makes the room cooler, which I don't like, but it's tolerable. Replacement filters run between 6 and 8 dollars, and you will probably need at least two per season.

Overall, it certainly has been safe for use around kids, and I feel better about that. I have also had no problems with leaking like others have said. It does take longer to add moisture to the room than the warm mist, and if you don't mind the constant emptying and cleaning...you'll probably like it.

We used this humidifier for about three years during Winter months on a nightly basis. It worked well, although the high setting was too loud, so we were never able to get full use out of it. This year when we took it out, it no longer works. I find any machine that is built to only work for three years is not worth the money. Probably better to spend a bit more and get a reliable and quieter machine.
